The Fount Account – Back to the Basics

Wasn’t Sunday’s service fantastic! Due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to pivot a few times, but in the end, we pulled off a meaningful, authentically Wesleyan service. We pulled together as a church and as a staff, filling in where needed and gracefully letting go of our expectations of how things “should” go.

A special thanks to Ted for sharing his adoption story and so clearly paralleling it to our adoption by God through Christ, thanks to Ric for bringing us back to our roots by sharing a Wesley sermon (in contemporary English) and thank you Lord for allowing our plans to be foiled so that something special could happen in place of our anticipated plans.

This experience reminded me that the early Methodist churches in America were led by church members (laity) and that preachers were circuit riders who periodically stopped in to give a sermon before heading on to the next stop. It worked as well for us yesterday as it did for the emerging church in the early days of our courntry.

This has been good reminder that God is faithful and that the foundation of our denomination was solid and it is still relevant today.
