This week, on Tuesday, April 23rd, the General Conference of The United Methodist Church begins meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is the postponed 2020 General Conference, meeting in 2024, but with the delegates elected in 2019 and 2020, except for those that have left the UMC through disaffiliation or otherwise. And with delegates from Africa and other outside-the-US areas being unable to attend because of visa issues, this General Conference promises to be the most progressive of all time.
I am calling on the congregation to pray for General Conference. Pray that God will have His way, and that the Holy Spirit will fall in power on the delegates and observers and bishops attending.
And since the Bible tells us to pray for what we faithfully want, pray that the General Conference will pass a new disaffiliation process that will apply for the churches, like The Fount, that were blocked from disaffiliating due to outrageous costs added by annual conferences like our own. And pray that a disaffiliation provision will be passed for those churches and conferences outside of the US that were unable to use par. 2553 to disaffiliate.
Our South District Superintendent, Rev. Sandy Olewine will be at General Conference as a delegate from Cal-Pac. Pray for her, that she will hear the voice of God and act accordingly, and that she will be an influence on her fellow delegates for good.
The General Conference will run from April 23rd through May 3rd, so keep your prayers going. You can monitor the sessions online at https://www.resourceumc.org/en/churchwide/general-conference-2020/live-stream. There are several other ways to receive reports from General Conference, see this article: https://www.umnews.org/en/news/following-the-news-at-general-conference.
I can’t emphasize enough how important this is. Please commit to praying fervently for God’s will to be done at General Conference!
In Christ,
