There is a song called, “The Greatest Love of All” sung by Whitney Houston. In the lyrics, it says,
I believe the children are our future.
Teach them well and let them lead the way.
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier.
Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be.
The phrase that caught my attention is “Teach them well and let them lead the way”.
Even Jesus emphasized the importance in investing and teaching our children the ways of the Lord,
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14.
As a church, we need to be vigilant in teaching our children what it means to live a Gospel-centered life. We currently live in a world where our children are surrounded by content that can not only harm them but also convince them that the Word of God is not true. We, as the body of Christ, must teach the Word of God to our children so it can be their foundation of morality, ethics, and discernment as they grow up.
Although we can’t control our children’s thoughts, and behaviors, we can disciple them as Jesus teaches us to do. We as parents, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, and grandparents must model Jesus in our everyday life and make sure our children learn to rely on God. In order to teach our children to be disciples of Jesus, we must become disciples first. Trusting the Lord with major decisions, being in community with other believers, and continuing to read the Word together as a family.
We at The Fount and Free Life Community Church are dedicated to modeling a Gospel-centered life by providing resources to our families on how to cultivate Christ-like families and communities. Let’s continue to pray for our families that they may trust and surrender to the Lord everyday of their lives, and so that our children will lead the way.
In Christ,
