Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year! The gathering of family and friends around a table of plenty, given the opportunity to return to God our hearts full of gratitude for all of the ways that His blessings have been received. It is a very special time!

For what are you thankful? For whom are you thankful?

Thanks is something that we give in response to a kindness or favor. And because it is given to us, it requires that we return it to Someone. I truly don’t understand how those who have no faith in God can “give thanks”! To whom are they giving thanks? The very concept of Thanksgiving requires a belief in a Person who has initially given the kindness or favor! Impersonal gratitude seems like a thin concept.

This Thanksgiving, I want to encourage you to return to God from the depths of your heart all of the gratitude He deserves for all of the blessings He has given to you and yours. Take time in your gatherings to enumerate all the ways you are grateful. And always remember to Whom you owe your thanks.
