I cannot tell you how many times people have started out with those words (“I remember when…”) to tell me about the history of this church and its many remarkable people and programs over the years! It usually centers around the numbers of people involved in the church, and the wonderful activities and programs of the church in its 50+ years of existence.
I love hearing those stories.
But it also saddens me to think that some believe that our best years, as a church, are behind us.
I don’t believe that our best years are behind us! In fact, I believe that God is up to something. I believe that God is working in our midst to draw us closer to Him and to prepare us from the best years (yet) of our church!
Why do I believe this? Because I have seen God do miracle after miracle in the lives of individuals and congregations for many, many years. And you have, too! In fact, for everyone who says “I remember when…” there should be an equal or higher number of us who say “I can’t wait to see what God will…!”
This is not a passive hopefulness. This is faith that believes that God is truly alive and that He can do far more in us and through us than we can ever hope or imagine! (Ephesians 3:20)
Will you join me in expectantly looking for what God will do next? Will you join me in celebrating our past, but anticipating what God might be up to?
Blessings,
Pastor Glen
