Banding Together

I have begun meeting with two other men (long distance) weekly in a Wesleyan Band, and I want to share with you what God is doing in my life as a result.

Many of you will remember that last fall, Ric Seaver and I attended the New Room Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.  Among other things that blessed me at this conference was the call to join together in what John Wesley called a “band” of 3-5 people (same gender, marital status and relative age) to meet weekly to go through a series of questions all dealing with the spiritual growth of the band members. Ric has also begun meeting with a band (a different one), also via phone/video conferencing. In my band, we also connect each day using an online devotional platform call (aptly) New Room Bands app! Isn’t technology grand?!?

What I am finding in my band is that I am much more focused on  obeying God’s Spirit in my daily walk.  The old habits and temptations to “slough off” the spiritual disciplines that help me grow are falling by the wayside as I realize I will have to report such discrepancies to my band brothers! So it is helping me to stay on track, and Wesley knew that was a key to continued spiritual growth.

If you’re serious about wanting to grow in the things of God, I commend the Wesleyan band meeting to you. Ric and I have a lot of information we can share with you (including a little booklet titled “New Room Bands” we can share with you. I would love to see us recover this essential Wesleyan spirituality tool that helped to make the Wesleyan/Methodist movement the great world changer it became in its formative years. After all, we are about “making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!”

Blessings,

Pastor Glen
