What To Do? Pray!

This is THE most frustrating election season of my life!  If you’re like me, there isn’t any candidate running for office (whether it be president, senator or city council) that I can get really excited about and support whole heartily. And the vitriol! Lord, have mercy!

So what is a Christian to do?

Let me suggest two things. (1) Pray, and (2) pray.

First, pray for guidance in voting.  None of us can predict how things will turn out, at least not with any certainty.  So now, more than ever, we need to pray for guidance on who and what to vote for (and not vote for).  Let the Spirit guide you.  As important as your vote is, it probably will not  decide the election, so vote as the Spirit leads and let God worry about the results.

Second, let me invite you to pray for something above and beyond this election.  There is a movement rising in our land and in our denomination to pray for a Great Awakening. Like the First and Second Great Awakenings in America (look it up), this Third Great Awakening has the potential to effect a course-correction for the nation and to lead to the salvation of thousands of souls.  On election day, our Sanctuary will be open for anyone who would like to pray.  Using material from The New Room (a Wesleyan movement of spiritual awakening) there will be printed prayer guides  available for anyone who wants to pray.  Come by during the day, serve at the hospitality table for our polling place, and step into the Sanctuary to spend some time sowing seed for a great awaking!

At noon, I’ll lead a brief prayer service.  But come by when you can (even after work) and spend a few minutes in prayer.

I don’t know how this election will turn out, who will be elected or what will be passed.  But I do know that whoever is elected and whatever is passed will not save us.  Only Jesus can save us! So let’s lift our hearts in prayer for God to have mercy on our wayward nation/state/city/church. Let’s pray for revival and awakening, because that will have far more effect than anything and anyone we can vote for!

Hope in Christ,

Pastor Glen
