The Church Council voted on March 13th to change the working name of the church.
The purpose is to be more accessible for those who are not a part of the “church culture” and who are not comfortable with denominational identities. Some resist attending traditional churches because they are unfamiliar with “churchy” terminology.
Some years ago, our sibling congregation in Huntington Beach changed their working name to Surf City Church. Almost all other churches in our area have made similar moves.
We will keep our corporate name, “First United Methodist Church of Fountain Valley” but will change our working name to “The Fount”. It is a unique name, it keeps our connection with Fountain Valley, but it enables us to project a new identity for a new time. It references the “Fount of Every Blessing” (i.e. Jesus) and it suggests that we all need to return to The Fount for sustenance and refreshment!
The hope is to make the switch before the summer so that families that will be moving into the area before school starts will be drawn to The Fount. There is a “Branding Team” working on a new logo, an adapted or new sign for the front lawn and other branding changes.
If you have questions, talk with Church Council members or with Pastor Glen or Ric Seaver.
