Making Connections

Evangelism is a scary word for some people.  Going door to door, talking to people about the 4 Spiritual Laws can be daunting. But evangelism doesn’t have to be like that.

In fact, evangelism is really only effective when it flows naturally from who you authentically are.
It starts with each of us knowing our story of salvation inside and out. Sharing that story with one another is good practice for when we might be able to share it with someone outside the church.  But we first have to know our story and know it well.  Writing it down to begin with can help.  But it needs to be written, finally, on our hearts (cf. Jeremiah 31:33) so that we can share it from our hearts.  Handing it to someone in written form will not be very effective (unless they ask for it in written form!).   Because the Gospel (Good News) is about what God has done in and through and for us.  We can tell the story of Jesus, of course, and we should.  But the sad fact is that many people know that story (vaguely) and the telling of it sounds and feels more like a history lesson than
anything else. But OUR story, now THAT is unique and new!
But it cannot stop there. Sharing our story is only the first step.  We also need to mentor others into a life of discipleship.  That requires that we establish and nurture on-going relationships with pre-believers and new believers so that they can see (in us) what following Jesus looks like.  We need to “do mission” with others, “do life” with others.

People today are looking for something that is real and life-changing. They want to see what following Jesus looks like and why it is important.  They want their lives to make a difference in this world.  Is there any way to impact the world more powerfully and righteously than to make disciples of Jesus?
This is our calling: to make disciples of Jesus Christ. How’s it going?

In Christ,

Pastor Glen
