Evangelism is a scary word.\u00a0 It is scary because many of us are uncomfortable talking about our faith with others, especially if they might reject us because of our faith.\u00a0 We don\u2019t practice enough with fellow believers, and so the thought of sharing our faith with unbelievers frightens us.<\/p>\n
But it doesn\u2019t need to be this way. Sharing our faith with others should come as naturally as any other conversation.\u00a0 Now, if you\u2019re afraid of talking to others in general, that\u2019s another matter!
\nReflect for a moment on Jesus\u2019 encounter with the Samaritan woman in John 4.\u00a0 He is on a rather long journey, and stops at Jacob\u2019s well to rest and refresh Himself.\u00a0 When the Samaritan woman comes to the well, Jesus doesn\u2019t look up and say, \u201cDo you know Me?\u201d\u00a0 And He doesn\u2019t make her uncomfortable by betraying an agenda.\u00a0 He simply says, \u201cGive me a drink.\u201d (John 4:7) \u00a0He lets the conversation continue naturally, until she opens up the spiritual dimension by asking Him for the \u201cliving water.\u201d\u00a0 It is a classic example of natural evangelism!<\/p>\n
So, walking up to someone on the street and asking, \u201cDo you know Jesus?\u201d isn\u2019t the best way to begin the conversation!\u00a0 The best way is the natural way. The way that Jesus spoke with the woman at the well.<\/p>\n
Are you having coffee with a friend?\u00a0 Are you standing in line at the check-out?\u00a0 Sitting next to someone at the game?\u00a0 Pray under your breath for God to lead, and then just strike up a conversation.\u00a0 See where it goes, follow any nudges from the Holy Spirit, and just watch what God does!
\nOh, and invite someone to come to church with you on Easter!<\/p>\n
