The mission of The United Methodist Church is to \u201cMake Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.\u201d And as such, that is our mission at The Fount.\u00a0 I\u2019m grateful that the General Conference of the UMC has identified this simple, yet powerful mission statement and am happy to adopt it because that is essentially what the Church of Jesus Christ is all about.\u00a0 But what does it mean?<\/p>\n
It means that all of us are to be about this business:\u00a0 making \u00a0disciples of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Because God uses Christian disciples to transform the world!<\/p>\n
Our \u201cjob\u201d is to: (1) Lead people to faith in Jesus Christ (conversion), and then (2) to walk with them as they grow in grace, helping (discipling) them to grow and become stronger \u00a0followers of Jesus.\u00a0 Sometimes I use the word \u201cmentoring\u201d, but it is really \u201cdiscipling\u201d.<\/p>\n
God calls each of us to be in ministry.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t just the pastor\u2019s job, or the church staff\u2019s job to be in ministry.\u00a0 All of us are to be involved in ministering to others.\u00a0 Each of us needs to discover our gifts for ministry (spiritual gifts) and then to discern God\u2019s call on our lives.\u00a0 I believe the church\u2019s job is to equip and empower its members to engage in the ministries to which God has called them.<\/p>\n
What are your gifts?\u00a0 To what has God called you?\u00a0 And who are you discipling?\u00a0 If you don\u2019t know the answers to these questions, I want to invite you to pray and seek God\u2019s heart. and I want to help you to find the answers.<\/p>\n
